Zasięg występowania
Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące w Pakistanie, Indiach, Nepalu i Sri Lance; w środkowej Mjanmie i prawdopodobnie w Bangladeszu[3].

Etymologia
Sphaerotheca: σφαιρος sphairos „kula, glob”; θηκη thēkē „grób” (tj. czaszka)[2].
