Muchotrzew (Spergularia (Pers.) J.Presl & C.Presl) – rodzaj roślin z rodziny goździkowatych (Caryophyllaceae). Obejmuje 63 gatunki^[4]. Występują one na wszystkich kontynentach z wyjątkiem Antarktydy. Rosną na skalistych klifach, w miejscach suchych i piaszczystych oraz na solniskach^[5] – liczne gatunki są halofitami^[6].

Rozmieszczenie geograficzne

Przedstawiciele rodzaju występują na rozległych obszarach w strefach umiarkowanych obu półkul i na obszarach górskich w strefie międzyzwrotnikowej^[4]. W Europie rośnie 17 gatunków^[5], w Ameryce Północnej 11^[6], w Polsce od 3 do 5 (w zależności od ujęcia systematycznego i źródła danych)^[7].

Morfologia

Pokrój: W większości płożące byliny i rośliny jednoroczne o wysokości do 15 cm^[5].
Liście: Naprzeciwległe, wąskie, mięsiste, niepodzielone, z papierzastymi przylistkami^[5].
Kwiaty: Pięciokrotne, zwykle różowe i otwierające się w słońcu. Działki kielicha wolne. Płatki niepodzielone. Pręciki w liczbie od 1 do 10. Zalążnia górna, słupek z trzema szyjkami^[5].
Owoce: Torebka otwierająca się trzema ściankami^[5].
